Drawing Challenge Number 43: "Tell a Story in a Minimum of Two Drawings" (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether

Hi everyone! 🙂

Welcome to the 43rd #W2DTogether drawing challenge!

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

------------

This week's challenge is all about telling a story through at least 2 consecutive drawings.

Think about comics, manga, or storyboards. Sometimes there is no dialogue at all, yet the drawings still tell a complete story, capture a memory, or express an emotion.

Your challenge is to create a minimum of two drawings that follow one another. The viewer should be able to understand what happened just by looking at them.

You can use the reference images in this post for inspiration, find your own reference online, or create an entirely original sequence from your imagination. There are no limits to the style or story you choose.

Your story can be:

  • Funny
  • Sad
  • Wholesome
  • Horror
  • Action
  • Fantasy
  • A memory
  • Slice of life
  • Or anything else you can imagine!

You can draw realistically, in a cartoon style, manga style, or any style you like. The only requirement is that the sequence is self explanatory.

Have fun with it and see how much you can communicate without words. 🙂

------

Rules

  • Must be YOUR drawing
  • Drawings only (pencil, pen, colored pencils, markers, or digital drawing tools)
  • No paintings
  • No AI art
  • All skill levels welcome: beginners, intermediates, experts
  • You must share AT LEAST ONE drawing
  • To be part of the competition, your drawing MUST be posted in the comments of this thread. (If you’d like, you can also make a separate post in the subreddit using the #W2DTogether flair, but the official entry needs to be here in the comments if you want it reviewed.)

---

How We Pick the Winner

After one week, we’ll hold a community vote to decide which drawing best captures the theme. The winner will be showcased in the sub with their artwork.

If the winner shares an art link (Instagram, portfolio, site, etc.), we’ll also include it so they can get recognition and maybe even new followers.

Time Frame

This challenge is timeless. You can participate anytime, even years later.

Review Date:
For community feedback, we’ll gather and review all submissions on Sunday, 12 July 2026 so make sure to post your entry before 4:00 PM UTC that date. Drawings posted before that date will be part of the review session.

Note: If you are new here, you can check out last week's challenge here or see all the challenges collected here

Drawing Challenge Number 40: "Design a Bookmark" (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether

Hi everyone! 🙂

Welcome to the 40th #W2DTogether drawing challenge!

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

-------------

This week's theme is:

Design a Bookmark

For this challenge, your mission is simple:

Create your own bookmark.

That's it. :)

A bookmark might seem like a small thing, but it's actually a tiny canvas filled with possibilities.

Some people use bookmarks every day.

Some collect them.

Some make them as gifts.

And some lose them after two days. 😅

For this challenge, imagine you have been asked to design a bookmark that someone would actually want to keep.

What would it look like?

Would it be beautiful? Funny? Dark? Cute? Inspirational? Would it tell a story from top to bottom? Would it be based on your favorite book, movie, language, game, country, hobby, or dream?

Or would it simply be a pattern that looks satisfying to draw?

The choice is entirely yours.

-------

Ideas You Can Try 🙂

• A bookmark inspired by your favorite book

• A fantasy bookmark with dragons and castles

• A language learning bookmark

• A floral bookmark

• A horror themed bookmark

• A space themed bookmark

• A bookmark that tells a story from top to bottom

• A black and white bookmark

• A bookmark inspired by a country or culture

• A bookmark filled with tiny doodles

• A seasonal bookmark

• A bookmark based on your favorite movie

• A magical library bookmark

• A funny bookmark

• A minimalist bookmark

• A manga or anime bookmark

• A nature themed bookmark

• A quote illustrated through drawings

• A completely original bookmark

• Something nobody has thought of before

etc. etc.

--

A Little Extra Challenge 🙂

Try designing a bookmark that actually reflects your personality.

If somebody found it inside a book years from now, what would they learn about you?

---------

Drawing Challenge Number 39: "Past Life" (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether

Hi everyone! 🙂

Are you ready for the 39th #W2DTogether drawing challenge?

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

-------------

Now let's get started.

This week's challenge theme is:

Past Life

For this challenge, your mission is to imagine who you might have been in a past life and create a drawing based on that idea.

Do you believe in past lives?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

For this challenge, it doesn't really matter. The goal is simply to have fun imagining a different version of yourself from another time, place, or reality.

In fact, this challenge can be interesting even if you don't believe in past lives at all.

You can approach it as a psychological exercise because the person you choose to draw might reveal something about yourself, your interests, your values, your dreams, or the kind of life you secretly wish you had lived.

Maybe you imagine yourself as an explorer because you crave adventure, maybe you draw a musician because creativity matters to you . perhaps you would even draw a king, a warrior, a scientist, or a teacher because those roles represent qualities you admire.

Whether your drawing reflects a forgotten life, a fantasy, or simply a part of yourself, that's entirely up to you. :)

------

Perhaps you were:

  • A pirate sailing unknown seas
  • A knight protecting a kingdom
  • An ancient queen
  • A farmer hundreds of years ago
  • A samurai
  • A cave painter
  • A circus performer
  • A detective in the 1920s
  • An explorer crossing deserts
  • A musician traveling the world
  • A scientist ahead of your time
  • An astronaut from the future
  • A dragon rider
  • A wizard
  • A completely ordinary person living an extraordinary story
  • Or maybe your past life wasn't human at all.

The choice is entirely yours, there is no limits in a way :)

This challenge is all about imagination, storytelling, and creating a character that feels like a forgotten chapter of your own history.

-------

Silly Ideas You Can Try :)

• Draw yourself meeting your past life

• Draw several possible past lives standing together

• Draw a mysterious object from your past life

• Draw a past life through old photographs

• Draw two different eras blending into one

• Draw a memory from a life you never lived

• Draw a past life that slowly reveals clues about who they were

• Draw a completely fictional past life

• Draw your past life's final day

• Draw your past life's greatest achievement

• Draw a reincarnation cycle

• Draw a scene inspired by dreams

• Draw a past life from another planet

• Draw a humorous past life

• Draw something completely original

etc. etc.

---------

Missed the Deadline? You Now Have One Final Week

Hi everyone 🙂

Over the past few days, several participants reached out to let me know that they haven't had enough time to finish or submit all of the drawings they wanted to send for the #W2DTogether drawing challenge book project.

(If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can read my previous post where I explained everything here)

Because of that, I've decided to extend the deadline by one final week.

New Final Deadline: June 14th

If you would like your artwork to be considered for possible inclusion in the first #W2DTogether book, please make sure to send it before that date.

You can submit your drawings:

• Under this post

• Under the original book project post

• Under the corresponding challenge post

• Or directly through Reddit chat

Please make sure I see your submission. If you post it somewhere else, feel free to tag me.

Here are the challenges from 1 to 24:

Important: There will be no further extensions after June 14th. This is the final deadline!

If you've been thinking about finishing an old challenge, redoing a drawing, or submitting artwork you've been putting off, now is the time.

Thank you to everyone who has participated so far. I can't wait to see the final submissions 🙂.

Drawing Challenge Number 38: "I'm Slowly Forgetting Your Face" (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether

Hi everyone! 🙂

Are you ready for the 38th #W2DTogether drawing challenge?

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

-----------

Now let's get started.

This week's challenge theme is:

I'm Slowly Forgetting Your Face

For this challenge, your mission is to create your own version of this concept:

"I'm slowly forgetting your face."

The interesting part?

The face should never be shown clearly.

Take a look at the main image of this post. Every square is an example of a different way to approach the same idea. In some drawings, the face is hidden behind hair. In others, it is replaced by birds, covered by a hand, erased completely, transformed into a question mark, distorted into something unfamiliar, or simply faded away.

Despite never clearly seeing the face, the message is still understood.

That's exactly what makes this concept so interesting.

This week's challenge is all about creativity and visual storytelling. Instead of focusing on drawing a face accurately, you'll focus on finding creative ways to suggest that a face exists while never fully revealing it.

--------

Silly Ideas You Can Try :)

You could draw:

• A face slowly turning into clouds

• A face replaced by flowers

• A face becoming static like a broken television

• A silhouette filled with memories

• A face covered by birds

• A face turning into stars

• A face dissolving into water

• A missing face replaced by a question mark

• A face hidden behind photographs

• A face made from fragments that no longer fit together

• A face becoming a landscape

• A face erased by time

• A face replaced by objects connected to memories

• A face hidden by shadows

• A face transforming into butterflies

• A face becoming abstract shapes

• A face replaced by written words

• A face fading into empty space

• A face that changes in every panel

• A completely original interpretation

etc. etc.

---------

How We Pick the Winner

Drawing Challenge Number 37: Mechanical Creations (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether

Hi everyone! 🙂

Are you ready for the 37th #W2DTogether drawing challenge?

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

-----------

Now let’s get started.

This week’s challenge theme is: Mechanical Creations

For this challenge, your mission is to draw something mechanical.

That can mean a LOT of things.

You could draw:

• A car
• A motorcycle
• A plane
• A train
• A spaceship
• A robot
• A drone
• A camera
• Headphones
• A gaming controller
• A watch
• A typewriter
• A sewing machine
• A bicycle
• A submarine
• A futuristic machine
• A sci-fi weapon
• A mech suit
• A robot arm
• A tank
• A computer setup
• A keyboard
• A cassette player
• A boombox
• A vintage radio
• A coffee machine
• A mechanical animal
• A steampunk invention
• A cyberpunk vehicle
• A mechanical heart
• A spaceship cockpit
• A giant engine
• Factory machinery
• Gears and pipes
• Or even just one single mechanical part

Anything works as long as it has that mechanical feeling.

You could draw something random from this list, but for these #W2DTogether challenges, I always encourage you to draw something connected to YOU somehow.

Something that has meaning to you. Something you genuinely love, that perhaps you use every day. Something that represents your interests, personality, dreams, hobbies, or aesthetic.

Maybe it’s a camera because you love photography. A motorcycle because you dream of owning one. A gaming setup. A spaceship because you love sci-fi. An old watch from someone important to you. A pair of headphones you wear every day. A retro object you find beautiful. A robot design that represents your imagination.

The goal is not just to “draw a machine. or simply something mechanical” If you can:

The real question can be: What mechanical object you can draw, that you would actually feel proud enough to hang on your wall afterward?

A lot of mechanical objects already have strong design naturally: old cameras, watches, cars, helmets, arcade machines, guitars, microphones, engines, retro electronics…

Even simple objects can become beautiful drawings when you focus on lighting, reflections, texture, perspective, and details.

And if you decide to draw something futuristic or fantasy based…
You can completely invent your own designs too.

You could literally create your own robot, spaceship, vehicle, gadget, or machine.

So this challenge can be:
• realistic
• stylized
• sci-fi
• anime inspired
• steampunk
• cyberpunk
• simple
• ultra detailed

Whatever fits your style.

Ideas You Can Try

You can draw:

• A close-up mechanical object
• A futuristic vehicle
• A robot portrait
• A broken abandoned machine
• A clean shiny sports car
• A cozy desk setup full of gadgets
• A spaceship flying through space
• A mechanical creature
• A vintage object with lots of detail
• A blueprint-style drawing
• A mechanic workshop scene
• A machine from your imagination
• A tiny everyday object drawn realistically

Traditional and digital both work.

References

You can:

• Use references from this post
• Use Pinterest
• Use your own objects at home

Small update regarding the #W2DTogether drawing challenge book project :)

Over the past days, I’ve reached out to some participants from previous challenges, and some of you also reached out to me yourselves. I’ve started asking artists to send me their drawings from Challenges #1 to #24 that could potentially be selected and featured in the book.

(If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can read my previous post where I explained everything here)

However, starting today, there is now an official deadline.

You have 2 weeks to create and share as many drawings as you want from Challenges #1 to #24 if you haven’t already done them. And just to clarify something important: more than one of your drawings can absolutely get selected. It could be 5 it could be 3 -2, etc... It’s not limited to a single piece per person. A lot of it will simply depend on the number of submissions I receive and which drawings fit best within the book itself.

So if there were older challenges you missed, wanted to redo, or simply never had the time to try, this is basically your final window to participate for the book selection part of the project.

Today is Wednesday, May 20th, which means you have until June 3rd to post your drawings.

Here are the challenges from 1 to 24:

PS: You can send me your drawings directly through Reddit chat, under this post, or under the other #W2DTogether challenge posts. If it’s not under this post or the previous update post I made about the book project, just make sure to tag me so I don’t miss it.

Can’t wait to see what you guys create 😄

Drawing Challenge Number 36: Draw the Most Delicious Food Ever (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether

Hi everyone!

Are you ready for the 36th #W2DTogether drawing challenge?

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

-----------

Now let’s get started.

This week’s challenge is all about FOOD.

But not just any food…

Your mission is to draw the most delicious food imaginable.

The kind of food that makes someone instantly hungry the second they look at it.

The kind of drawing that makes people go:

“Ummm… that looks so good.”
“I want to eat that right now.”
“Why did I open Reddit while I'm hungry…”

For this challenge, think about THIS:

What food would make you personally drool if you saw it in real life right now?

Maybe it’s:

  • Melted cheese stretching from a pizza slice
  • Crispy golden fries
  • A giant juicy burger
  • Ramen with steaming broth
  • Chocolate cake with dripping frosting
  • Sushi
  • Pancakes with syrup pouring down
  • Ice cream melting
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Tacos
  • Pasta
  • Croissants
  • Candy
  • Homemade food from your culture
  • Or even snacks and drinks

Anything works.

What Makes This Challenge Interesting

This challenge is amazing practice for realism and observation.

Food is actually harder to draw than people think.

You’ll need to pay attention to things like:

  • Texture
  • Lighting
  • Reflections
  • Steam
  • Melting effects
  • Shadows
  • Glossiness
  • Crumbs
  • Sauce drips
  • Details that make food feel REAL

Tip: Adding color (alcohol markers or coloring pencils) to your drawing for this challenge can help to make your drawing/food more believable.

So for this week's challenge it's to not just “draw food.” The goal is to make people FEEL hungry when they see your drawing.

If someone looks at your art and immediately wants to eat it…
You succeeded.

Ideas You Can Try

You can draw:

  • One single realistic food item
  • A plate filled with whatever food or pastry you want
  • A full meal
  • A restaurant scene
  • A close-up food illustration
  • A dessert table
  • Street food
  • A cozy café vibe
  • A food character or stylized food
  • Cute chibi food
  • Anime-style food
  • Hyper realistic food
  • Your favorite childhood meal
  • Food from your country or culture

Traditional and digital both work.

References

You can:

  • Use one of the references shared in this post
  • Use your own food photos
  • Use Pinterest references
  • Look at restaurant photography
  • Study cooking videos or food ads
  • Use real food in front of you as reference

Just make sure the final drawing itself is yours.

Looking for Artists Who Would Like Their Work Featured

Hi everyone, how are you guys?

As some of you probably know, for the past 35 weeks we’ve been hosting a weekly drawing challenge in this sub called #W2DTogether. Every single week I’ve been sharing new challenges to help people who struggle with art block, don’t know what to draw, or simply want motivation to keep creating consistently.

Behind the scenes, I’ve also been working on something bigger… a series of books based on these challenges, focused entirely on helping artists all around the world fight art block and rediscover creativity.

And while working on these books, I had an idea.

I’ve been thinking about including some participants’ artworks inside the books, with full credit of course. That means your drawing could potentially be featured along with your artist username for some of the challenges.

I thought this could be a really cool opportunity for members of this community to get more recognition for their art and to become part of the project itself.

The first volumes will most likely include challenges #1 to #24.

So if you’re interested:

• If you already participated in past challenges, feel free to post your drawing again in the comments and mention which challenge it was from and which artwork you would like considered.

• If you’re new and never got the chance to participate in some older challenges, you can still do them now and share your artwork in the comments as well.

I obviously can’t guarantee every drawing will make it into the books, but I would genuinely love to feature members from this community if possible.

Let me know what you think 😄

Drawing Challenge Number 35: My Imaginary Friend (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether

Hi everyone! 🙂

Are you ready for the 35th #W2DTogether drawing challenge?

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

-----------

Now let’s get started.

This week’s challenge is to not just drawing a character…
But drawing a character that feels personal to you.

Your task this week is to draw your imaginary character.

That could mean:

  • An imaginary friend
  • Your personal OC
  • A fictional companion
  • A celebrity transformed into a cartoon or chibi version that you feel is like your fantasy friend
  • A creature only you could imagine
  • A spirit-like character that follows you everywhere
  • Someone inspired by movies, games, anime, books, or TV shows that you can transform into your imaginary character. (it could be a mix of multiple references)
  • Or even a completely original person that exists only in your mind

If you feel lost, imagine this:

You are sitting alone in a room.

Now ask yourself…

Who would be the perfect imaginary character sitting next to you right now?
A character only you can see, that understands you, that could follow you anywhere while remaining invisible to everyone else.

That’s the character you should draw.

-------

What Makes This Challenge Interesting

This challenge is not really about anatomy or realism.

It’s about personality.

Try to think beyond “just a cool design or illustration.”

Ask yourself:

  • How would this character behave?
  • Would they be funny, creepy, comforting, chaotic, calm, protective?
  • Would they speak a lot… or stay silent?
  • What kind of clothes, shapes, eyes, colors, or expressions represent them?

Even simple drawings can feel and look amazing if the character has presence.

-----

What You Can Draw

As said, this challenge is extremely open, so be creative with it.

You can draw:

  • Chibi characters
  • Cartoon characters
  • Anime-inspired OCs
  • Fantasy creatures
  • Horror companions
  • Cute imaginary friends
  • Stylized celebrities
  • Mascot-like characters
  • Human or non-human companions
  • Full body designs
  • Character sheets
  • Simple portraits
  • Scenes showing you and the character together

Traditional or digital both work.

------

References:

You can:

  • Get inspired by the references provided in this post
  • Use references for poses or inspiration
  • Get inspired by existing fictional characters
  • Mix ideas from different universes
  • Or create something entirely original

Last thing…

Try not to overthink perfection.

Some of the most memorable characters are simple.

What matters is whether the character feels alive.

Let’s see who’s hiding inside your imagination this week 🙂

----------

Rules

  • Must be YOUR drawing
  • Drawings only (pencil, pen, colored pencils, markers, or digital drawing tools)
