Small update regarding the #W2DTogether drawing challenge book project :)

Over the past days, I’ve reached out to some participants from previous challenges, and some of you also reached out to me yourselves. I’ve started asking artists to send me their drawings from Challenges #1 to #24 that could potentially be selected and featured in the book.

(If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can read my previous post where I explained everything here)

However, starting today, there is now an official deadline.

You have 2 weeks to create and share as many drawings as you want from Challenges #1 to #24 if you haven’t already done them. And just to clarify something important: more than one of your drawings can absolutely get selected. It could be 5 it could be 3 -2, etc... It’s not limited to a single piece per person. A lot of it will simply depend on the number of submissions I receive and which drawings fit best within the book itself.

So if there were older challenges you missed, wanted to redo, or simply never had the time to try, this is basically your final window to participate for the book selection part of the project.

Today is Wednesday, May 20th, which means you have until June 3rd to post your drawings.

Here are the challenges from 1 to 24:

PS: You can send me your drawings directly through Reddit chat, under this post, or under the other #W2DTogether challenge posts. If it’s not under this post or the previous update post I made about the book project, just make sure to tag me so I don’t miss it.

Can’t wait to see what you guys create 😄

Drawing Challenge Number 36: Draw the Most Delicious Food Ever (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether

Hi everyone!

Are you ready for the 36th #W2DTogether drawing challenge?

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

-----------

Now let’s get started.

This week’s challenge is all about FOOD.

But not just any food…

Your mission is to draw the most delicious food imaginable.

The kind of food that makes someone instantly hungry the second they look at it.

The kind of drawing that makes people go:

“Ummm… that looks so good.”
“I want to eat that right now.”
“Why did I open Reddit while I'm hungry…”

For this challenge, think about THIS:

What food would make you personally drool if you saw it in real life right now?

Maybe it’s:

  • Melted cheese stretching from a pizza slice
  • Crispy golden fries
  • A giant juicy burger
  • Ramen with steaming broth
  • Chocolate cake with dripping frosting
  • Sushi
  • Pancakes with syrup pouring down
  • Ice cream melting
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Tacos
  • Pasta
  • Croissants
  • Candy
  • Homemade food from your culture
  • Or even snacks and drinks

Anything works.

What Makes This Challenge Interesting

This challenge is amazing practice for realism and observation.

Food is actually harder to draw than people think.

You’ll need to pay attention to things like:

  • Texture
  • Lighting
  • Reflections
  • Steam
  • Melting effects
  • Shadows
  • Glossiness
  • Crumbs
  • Sauce drips
  • Details that make food feel REAL

Tip: Adding color (alcohol markers or coloring pencils) to your drawing for this challenge can help to make your drawing/food more believable.

So for this week's challenge it's to not just “draw food.” The goal is to make people FEEL hungry when they see your drawing.

If someone looks at your art and immediately wants to eat it…
You succeeded.

Ideas You Can Try

You can draw:

  • One single realistic food item
  • A plate filled with whatever food or pastry you want
  • A full meal
  • A restaurant scene
  • A close-up food illustration
  • A dessert table
  • Street food
  • A cozy café vibe
  • A food character or stylized food
  • Cute chibi food
  • Anime-style food
  • Hyper realistic food
  • Your favorite childhood meal
  • Food from your country or culture

Traditional and digital both work.

References

You can:

  • Use one of the references shared in this post
  • Use your own food photos
  • Use Pinterest references
  • Look at restaurant photography
  • Study cooking videos or food ads
  • Use real food in front of you as reference

Just make sure the final drawing itself is yours.

----------

Rules

  • Must be YOUR drawing
  • Drawings only (pencil, pen, colored pencils, markers, or digital drawing tools)
  • No paintings
  • No AI art
  • All skill levels welcome: beginners, intermediates, experts
  • You must share AT LEAST ONE drawing
  • To be part of the competition, your drawing MUST be posted in the comments of this thread. (If you’d like, you can also make a separate post in the subreddit using the #W2DTogether flair, but the official entry needs to be here in the comments if you want it reviewed.)

How We Pick the Winner

After one week, we’ll hold a community vote to decide which drawing best captures the theme. The winner will be showcased in the sub with their artwork.

If the winner shares an art link (Instagram, portfolio, site, etc.), we’ll also include it so they can get recognition and maybe even new followers.

Time Frame

This challenge is timeless. You can participate anytime, even years later.

Review Date:
For community feedback, we’ll gather and review all submissions on Sunday, 24 May 2026 so make sure to post your entry before 4:00 PM UTC that date. Drawings posted before that date will be part of the review session.

Note: If you are new here, you can check out last week's challenge here or see all the challenges collected here

Looking for Artists Who Would Like Their Work Featured

Hi everyone, how are you guys?

As some of you probably know, for the past 35 weeks we’ve been hosting a weekly drawing challenge in this sub called #W2DTogether. Every single week I’ve been sharing new challenges to help people who struggle with art block, don’t know what to draw, or simply want motivation to keep creating consistently.

Behind the scenes, I’ve also been working on something bigger… a series of books based on these challenges, focused entirely on helping artists all around the world fight art block and rediscover creativity.

And while working on these books, I had an idea.

I’ve been thinking about including some participants’ artworks inside the books, with full credit of course. That means your drawing could potentially be featured along with your artist username for some of the challenges.

I thought this could be a really cool opportunity for members of this community to get more recognition for their art and to become part of the project itself.

The first volumes will most likely include challenges #1 to #24.

So if you’re interested:

• If you already participated in past challenges, feel free to post your drawing again in the comments and mention which challenge it was from and which artwork you would like considered.

• If you’re new and never got the chance to participate in some older challenges, you can still do them now and share your artwork in the comments as well.

I obviously can’t guarantee every drawing will make it into the books, but I would genuinely love to feature members from this community if possible.

Let me know what you think 😄

Drawing Challenge Number 35: My Imaginary Friend (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether

Hi everyone! 🙂

Are you ready for the 35th #W2DTogether drawing challenge?

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

-----------

Now let’s get started.

This week’s challenge is to not just drawing a character…
But drawing a character that feels personal to you.

Your task this week is to draw your imaginary character.

That could mean:

  • An imaginary friend
  • Your personal OC
  • A fictional companion
  • A celebrity transformed into a cartoon or chibi version that you feel is like your fantasy friend
  • A creature only you could imagine
  • A spirit-like character that follows you everywhere
  • Someone inspired by movies, games, anime, books, or TV shows that you can transform into your imaginary character. (it could be a mix of multiple references)
  • Or even a completely original person that exists only in your mind

If you feel lost, imagine this:

You are sitting alone in a room.

Now ask yourself…

Who would be the perfect imaginary character sitting next to you right now?
A character only you can see, that understands you, that could follow you anywhere while remaining invisible to everyone else.

That’s the character you should draw.

-------

What Makes This Challenge Interesting

This challenge is not really about anatomy or realism.

It’s about personality.

Try to think beyond “just a cool design or illustration.”

Ask yourself:

  • How would this character behave?
  • Would they be funny, creepy, comforting, chaotic, calm, protective?
  • Would they speak a lot… or stay silent?
  • What kind of clothes, shapes, eyes, colors, or expressions represent them?

Even simple drawings can feel and look amazing if the character has presence.

-----

What You Can Draw

As said, this challenge is extremely open, so be creative with it.

You can draw:

  • Chibi characters
  • Cartoon characters
  • Anime-inspired OCs
  • Fantasy creatures
  • Horror companions
  • Cute imaginary friends
  • Stylized celebrities
  • Mascot-like characters
  • Human or non-human companions
  • Full body designs
  • Character sheets
  • Simple portraits
  • Scenes showing you and the character together

Traditional or digital both work.

------

References:

You can:

  • Get inspired by the references provided in this post
  • Use references for poses or inspiration
  • Get inspired by existing fictional characters
  • Mix ideas from different universes
  • Or create something entirely original

Last thing…

Try not to overthink perfection.

Some of the most memorable characters are simple.

What matters is whether the character feels alive.

Let’s see who’s hiding inside your imagination this week 🙂

----------

Rules

  • Must be YOUR drawing
  • Drawings only (pencil, pen, colored pencils, markers, or digital drawing tools)
  • No paintings
  • No AI art

u/A_Khouri — 18 days ago

Hi everyone! 🙂

Are you ready for the 34th #W2DTogether drawing challenge?

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

-----------

Now, let’s get started.

This week is gonna be a bit different.. perhaps something you never tried before... You wont have to use colors, nor details fighting for attention.
You'll only have to draw one thing: Shadows.

Your task is simple… but not easy:

Draw using only black.

The shadow is the subject.

That means:

  • The black you draw = the shadow
  • The white = your paper or canvas
  • Nothing else

If you’re drawing traditionally, your pencil or pen creates the shadow.
If you’re drawing digitally, your canvas stays white and everything you draw is black.

What Makes This Interesting

Shadows are not just dark shapes…

They reveal.

A silhouette can suggest a face.
A few shapes can suggest a body.
A simple form can tell a full story.

You are not drawing the object itself…
You are drawing what it leaves behind.

What You Can Draw

This challenge is very open and you have to be creative if you really want it to take it to another level.. but here are somethings that you can draw for instance:

  • A shadow of a person
  • A shadow of a face
  • Hands, objects, or full scenes
  • Manga-style shadow compositions
  • Minimal lines that reveal a form
  • Abstract shapes that still suggest something real

As long as it’s shadow-based and it reveals something, it works.

References

You can:

  • Copy one of the 14 references provided
  • Use them as inspiration
  • Or find your own

Last thing…

This challenge looks simple.
It’s not.

If you do it right, it will train your eye more than most detailed drawings.

So take it seriously.

Let’s see what you come up with.

----------

Rules

  • Must be YOUR drawing
  • Drawings only (pencil, pen, colored pencils, markers, or digital drawing tools)
  • No paintings
  • No AI art
  • All skill levels welcome: beginners, intermediates, experts
  • You must share AT LEAST ONE drawing + it should be black and white
  • To be part of the competition, your drawing MUST be posted in the comments of this thread. (If you’d like, you can also make a separate post in the subreddit using the #W2DTogether flair, but the official entry needs to be here in the comments if you want it reviewed.)

Hi everyone! 🙂

Are you ready for the 33rd #W2DTogether drawing challenge?

(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)

-----------

Now, let’s get started.

I was actually thinking of making this week something animal related… but that felt a bit too basic, so I think that can wait for another week.

This time, I wanted something that people don’t draw really often… but if drawn right it could look really cool!

So I thought.. what about..

Insects.

Yeah… insects.

Your task this week is really simple, all you have to do is draw at least : One insect

That’s it. But how far you take it is up to you.

Think about it this way:

Insects have structure, repetition, symmetry, texture. Legs, wings, shells, patterns. There’s a lot going on, and if you pay attention to it, your drawing level can jump fast.

And if you go creative with it… it can get really interesting.

What You Can Draw

You have full freedom here:

  • Real insects like ants, butterflies, beetles, spiders, scorpions.. so you can go full realism on this one.
  • Close-up studies focusing on details and textures
  • Stylized or simplified insects
  • Fantasy insects, exaggerated or redesigned
  • A full scene involving insects or just a single subject

So you can keep it as a study if you want… or turn it into something more artistic.

References

You can:

  • Copy one of the 13 references provided
  • Use them as inspiration
  • Or find your own references

----------

This challenge is timeless. You can participate anytime, even years later.
