Are existing All in one algo tools good enough for non-developers or not?

my friend has been trading for 4 years. wanted to automate his strategy. spent a few weeks scavenging github, reading docs, piecing things together. eventually gave up.
I watched this happen and started looking into why it's so hard. checked out a few platforms .... most just sell readymade strategies, which isn't useful if you already have your own.
maybe i'm missing something and there are better solutions out there. but it genuinely seems like the workflow for a non-technical retail trader is still pretty fragmented.
I'm a developer and honestly, I have some ideas around this. but before I go down that rabbit hole which will eat up few months of my life.... curious if people here have actually tried automating their own strategy without being a developer. what worked, what didn't, what do existing tools still get wrong?
trying to figure out if this is even worth jumping into.
