Wide-Format Color Laser Printer that Handles 1s Gloss 12pt Cover stock?
I'm trying to bring cover printing for a sci-fi zine of mine in-house. The format is 5.5x8.5; I've been printing the covers on 11x17 one-sided gloss 12pt cover stock using a variety of oversize prosumer inkjet printers, but I always encounter problems with smudging, long print and drying times, and the overall ink costs per print being inexcusable. So I've turned my eye towards laser jets and could use some recommendations. I have my eye on the Xerox VersaLink C7100 series, but it's hard to find a price online and, given that it's probably in the thousands of dollars, is probably something I might have to save up for. (I also haven't been able to find sufficiently concrete information on how well it handles gloss or cover stock.) I might be able to get away with a smaller printer that handles 8.5x14 paper, but in order to do so I'd have to confirm that I can find legal-sized cover stock *and* ensure the printer can print right up to the edge of the sheet. Would greatly appreciate any thoughts!
