Advice for newly diagnosed pup
My sweet girl (6yr dachshund) was just diagnosed yesterday with epilepsy after having 8 focal seizures in 17 hrs. She also had a full grand mal just under 2 months ago with what I know now to be 4 focal seizures b4 it in a 8 hr span. Er vet said she has a really good prognosis and it has been caught early.
She was on fluoxetine (now discontinued) before the first one and this time happened 30 mins after getting back from the vet and eating a new joint supplement (dasuquin).
She is now on keppra 3x daily until we transition her to the extended release version 2x daily.
I've read keppra is very time sensitive so I'm wondering how pet parents balance their lives around their pets meds? I work from home and try to take her with me whenever possible. My main concern is if something comes up that is not pet friendly but falls during the time of her meds, what is the best way to handle that? I of course want to do what's best for her 100% and am not opposed to saying no to plans that would not be in her best interest. But I would like to find a balance.
What do other pet parents do in these situations? Or what times would be best for dosing to avoid these situations as much as possible?
I've been reading a lot on other pets experiences, but any advice to help her live a happy life and adjust to her new normal would also be greatly appreciated!
