TrueCar certified vs. reviews for dealership

I'm trying to help my kid get his college car, and we have a very tight budget. One dealership I've found has many cars with decent year/mileage for low prices, but their online reviews are mixed, with a nearly even Love/Hate relationship. This dealer is a TrueCar certified dealership. Does that mean anything for the customer experience? Can we trust the cars at all?
