Art Project - Gender Expression and Femininity
Hi everyone!
I am a 25F art student from South Africa. I am creating a small series of artworks for an assignment due at the end of June. I want to explore the intricacies of performative femininity in femboys and mtf cross dressing as authentic gender expression, especially in digital spaces. The reason for my exploration is that my beloved partner of five years opened up to me last year about him cross dressing after years of hidden confusion and shame about his sense of self. Understandably, it’s something that’s still somewhat private for him, so as much as he’s happy for me to create the artworks, he doesn’t want to be directly referenced in my artworks. I like to root my art in specificity and lived experiences, rather than making it something generic, especially seeing that I am speaking as an outsider looking in.
Hence, I am reaching out the community here (I have also shared in r/crossdressing) in search of one or two muses (over 18 for POPIA reasons and the safety of minors) who would be happy to help me out with some accounts of their personal experiences as a femboy/cross dressing as well as a series reference photos of themselves that I can use to draw upon in creating my final artworks (a drawing in the form of an artist book, a digital painting and a graphic design poster). The artworks will be presented for assessment at a small exhibition with my lecturers and classmates, and will not be used publicly or commercially.
I understand that there are alot of predators and people with ill-intent, so I can provide my proof of my registration as a student at UNISA for reassurance.
