Mild Scheuermann’s kyphosis and strength training 💪🏼

When I was 14 and went through a big growth spurt my posture was very poor.

I started to develop a lot of pain in my thoracic spine.

When I went to the chiropractor they told me I had a mild case of scheuermanns disease.

I was devastated at the time. My sister would tease me and call me hunch back.

Around the same time I stared lifting weights.

I do remember some exercises that caused a lot of pain at the time.

But over the years it went away.

Now at 42 I still have mild kyphosis but I don’t even think about it.

Strength training and improving my posture helped massively!

I know this is not relevant to many people with a severe curvature but for mild cases there is a lot you can do to improve your posture.

When I see other people post on here but their posture is horrible, it’s not helping.

Building up a large degree of muscle hides the kyphosis to a large extent.

I am writing this message to my younger self to inspire them to take up the weights.

It’s not a quick fix but I’m a big believer that the gym saved my spine.

If I was the same age, no strength training and sitting at a desk all day, I’m sure my back would be a painful mess right now.
