Ortho CMA interview tomorrow — any tips?
I have an interview tomorrow morning for a CMA position at an orthopedic outpatient clinic & would love any advice from people who have been through something similar.
A little background on me: I'm a pre-PA student finishing up my psych degree and I have my CCMA exam scheduled for June 5th. My hands-on experience is mostly from caregiving (I was a full-time caregiver for two ALS patients, both of whom were part of an ALS specialty clinic), a geriatric memory care internship, and OR observation in orthopedic surgery. My younger brother has also had four shoulder surgeries so I feel like I understand the patient side of ortho pretty well.
The position is at a multi-specialty outpatient clinic, primarily ortho but with the opportunity to cross-train across other specialties. It's a panel interview which I'm a little nervous about.
A few things I'm wondering:
- What topics or skills did they actually ask you about in your CMA interview? Did they ask clinical questions or was it mostly behavioral?
- For ortho specifically, is there anything you wish you had brushed up on going in?
- Any advice for panel interviews in a clinical setting?
- I'm still in the process of getting my CCMA did that come up as an issue for anyone or is being actively scheduled for the exam usually fine? I did mention this on my resume when applying
Any advice appreciated, even if it's just what to wear or how early to show up!
