Loved that you stayed a AZ Cardinal.. wish we would of beat the Steelers and got you a ring that you deserved. But nonetheless congratulations!
The D-Backs general manager acknowledged the disappointment while explaining that the organization’s willingness to deal prospects had limits when it came to dipping into the major league roster.
"Yeah, I don’t know, we offered a lot, so all the way to the top of our farm system, etc.,” Hazen said, according to Arizona Sports’ Alex Weiner. “I had to draw the line on the Major League team on some level. There were some of those asks. Taking guys off the Major League team comes with a bigger risk. Taking guys out of the bullpen, taking younger players off the team that we need, but from a prospect standpoint, I felt like we were very aggressive.”
However, Hazen admitted the outcome was not what he envisioned.
“But I wish we were able to do more, obviously, with the way the team has played, but that’s the way it went,” he said.
It wasn’t that the front office lacked urgency to add, but rather the high price teams demanded in negotiations. The club was willing to part with premium prospects, but it was clear those offers were not enough for other teams to move the players Arizona targeted.
Which means his season is over
In news of who the Dbacks sent to STL it's Daniel Eagan, Ruben Santana and a player to be named later.
Let's go !
Stowers deal just became more likely for us imo
Figured it was bound to happen but this move was more of a fuck the rest of the league kind of move tbh
His two top priorities are landing a SP and a hitter who bats left-handed.
He did not rule out the idea of adding a reliever, as well, whether it be a high-leverage arm or another lefty to pair with Brandyn Garcia.
When this all might take place — or even if — he was not sure.
“When you have the players and you’re making the trades, you get to determine the time,” Hazen said. “When they have the players, you don’t get to determine the time.”
Sources say the Diamondbacks are open to adding a position player who plays first base, outfield or designated hitter, with the primary attribute being an ability to hit right-handed pitching.
Hazen said he would prefer a controllable starting pitcher but noted that his current group of 2027 starters should be strong without further additions, assuming they are healthy. Burnes, Nelson, Eduardo Rodriguez, Merrill Kelly and Brandon Pfaadt are all under contract for next year.
Regarding to rumors of what the Mets wanted for Freddy is as follows (A top-100 prospect and more) he has not done well this season.. posting a 4.99 ERA.. his underlyings do show a positive swing so a team probably would be willing to take a chance.
He also states at the end that there are not very many sellers so to not get too excited
"Ok let's cut to the chase. If you are expecting the Diamondbacks to be big buyers at the deadline and go get a bat, starting pitcher and closer you will be extremely disappointed. They will absolutely rely more on the quality players coming back from injury like Justin Martinez, Michael Soroka, Jordan Lawlar and Corbin Burnes then trade deadline acquisitions. For one there is not a game-changing bat in the market. But more importantly because of a record payroll the Diamondbacks are only 6-7 million UNDER the penalty! The Diamondbacks, like the Suns not going into the second apron, will absolutely not go over the luxury tax."
"It would cost them somewhere around $30 million to go over and not qualify for the money the 8-9 luxury tax teams are paying with redistribution. I have mentioned possibly being a buyer and seller and that could help. But just know if you add a player whose salary is 10 million for this season ALL 10 million counts against the competitive balance tax not the portion the acquiring team would have be required to pay. So, barring a trade that would free up money I just cannot see them adding any player making over 6-7 million UNLESS they move out some other salary. The good news is they do expect to get some very key/important players back for the final 4-6 weeks of the season."
In regards to the players coming back from the IL "that's going to change our profile dramatically without us doing anything at the deadline"
In regards to buying "I would love to add this team given if they show us that they belong in the wildcard race"
