Puppy Potty Training Struggle
Hello everyone!
My husband and I adopted a 3 month old schnauzer mix at the shelter 2 weeks ago. (He just turned 3 month a week ago) He was neutered the day before we adopted him. He was surrender to the shelter by the previous owner. They couldn't take care of him anymore.
We been potty training him by taking him out every hour, or when we notice some sniffling behavior. We also provide praise and treat when he potties outside (he's food motivated)
He has consistently been having 1 to 3 accidents a day. In most cases, he would pee immediately after we took him out and brought him back inside. We realized he became distracted with people/surrounding and we been more vigilant of making sure he actually potty outside before we bring him inside.
Now we notice that he potty outside and then pees inside 5 to 20 minutes later. I noticed a pattern of it happening when we either leave the room or he becomes spook/excited. I think it might be some separation anxiety.
He does whine and bark when we leave the room but settles down after a few minutes. But when we come back we may or may not find pee on the floor.
The longest he's been by himself in the crate has been once or twice for an hour, maybe two as we always find someone to stay with him.
He is crate trained and has had no accidents in the crate. We do wake up in the middle of the night to potty him.
Recently went to the vet and he's completely healthy.
Any advice? Anything else we should be doing?
