Theory: Blood Spell Done by Ruby [Only A Spoiler If You Haven't Watched Season 4]
Okay so this is a thought I'd had for a while regarding Sam's demon blood arc in Season 4. I'm a Sam girl so this might be a cope but hear me out.
After Dean was resurrected, all the choices Sam made were just really poor and didn't make sense. I'm currently rewatching and just felt so much frustration with how he kept being driven by his own desire for revenge despite being told by literally everyone but Ruby to stop. Everyone chalks it up to his own arrogance, rebellion, and other things, but I have another theory:
What if Ruby did a blood spell on Sam to make him addicted to the demon blood (and her) and that made his choices lead him to releasing Lucifer? Like in a way that not only made her dependent on her but clouded his head and mind enough for him to be manipulated by her.
In Season 3, Ruby reveals she was a witch before she died and became a demon, hence how she always was able to come up with spells or hex bags to help the boys out.
I have this theory for a couple of reasons:
- Like I mentioned earlier, Sam's decision making the whole season doesn't really make sense.
- None of Azazel's other special children needed to drink blood to strengthen their powers. All they had to do was accept it and it "flipped a switch".
- Ruby needed a reason to keep Sam attached to her in ways other than just giving information to Lilith.
- Ruby herself made the Dumbo analogy of Sam never needing the "feather to fly".
There were more reasons, but I can't help to think of them right now. >!Even when Lucifer told him he needed to drink the demon blood for his body to be able to contain him, my theory there was more so of a way for Lucifer to have Sam associate him with "feeling good" because no other archangel that we know of has required their vessel to do anything to let them in other than saying "Yes".!<
Of course the addiction itself had a huge part to play so this theory more-so has to do with what actually brought it on. Thinking back on it, it was actually gross that he had to keep drinking blood and I can't fully wrap my head around how that started. And yes, I know his desperation to save Dean and go after Lilith were also a factor. Please entertain me with this theory.
What do you think?
