Why is "86 47" a criminal threat, but "hang Mike Pence" is not?

The Trump administration insists that an arrangement of seashells spelling "86 47" is a true criminal threat, yet has pardoned people who shouted "hang Mike Pence." (Trump is also trying to pay these people from his "weaponization fund.")

Why is the listing of numbers a crime, yet the building of a gallows amid a riot is not?

What can world democracies do about The Stupids?

The biggest threat to democracy worldwide is not one particular stupid person -- Donald Trump -- but the tremendous number of deeply stupid people who support him and leaders of his ilk.

I love liberal democracy, but these systems require informed electorates.

How can democracies possibly function when so many people think deeply, deeply stupid things like climate change is fake, Trump won the 2020 US Presidential election, the germ theory of disease is wrong, windmills cause cancer, or that the Earth is flat?

To be clear, dictatorship is much worse. But how can liberal democracy thrive under these conditions?

Why do they struggle so much with the linear passage of time?

If embryos are "babies" and the fertility clinic is on fire, should you save one (1) human toddler or one hundred (100) frozen embryos?

Anti-abortion groups claim that each embryo is a "baby."

Since this is the case, in a disaster scenario, logically anti-abortionists should wheel out the dewar flask containing 100 embryos at the expense of the giggling 2-year-old playing on the floor, correct?

Post-apartheid South Africa benefitted from a Truth and Reconciliation Commission that held hearings, uncovered crimes, and gave victims some reparations and rehabilitation.

Now that MAGA is finally winding down, is this a model the US should pursue under the next Democratic president?

The Trump administration has indicated James Comey a second time for his picture of seashells arranged to say "86 47," claiming that Comey made an assassination threat.

If "86" is an assassination threat, do bars and restaurants routinely murder their customers when they "86" them from the establishment?
