Do you think the shelter where I'm staying is guilty of wrongdoing?
'm currently staying at women's shelter. There are over 150 of us here. The building is very old and has three floors. There has been several plumbing issues. Since last December there have been issues with pipes in some women's rooms bursting and leaking sewage and water from the ceiling. This results in the maintenance man or custodian having to help us set up trash cans to catch all the sewage/ water and clean up the mess. I originally thought that this was all happening because I am in Texas and sometimes pipes burst because they freeze in the winter. Fast fast forward to today and pipes are still bursting despite it being summer
Last Thursday three women in the rooms across from me had to leave their rooms because pipes burst above their beds. The following Tuesday I heard the maintenance man tell the custodian to "bleach the hell out of the room." The next day the shelter put a new woman in there. Then at midnight pipes started to leak again in the hallways and in the new woman's room. I feel like they shouldn't have put someone in there when there's obviously issues with the pipes. Furthermore, I noticed this woman was in hospital clothes, the thin paper kind which makes me think she came directly from the hospital. I think it's really messed up that she had to come from the hospital only to stay a few hours, have her stuff soaked with water, and have to be moved to another room.
Do you think the shelter is guilty of any wrongdoing? I know it's a completely free place and we are obviously free to leave anytime we want. But I also feel like they're making it seem like the shelter is a habitable place when it isn't. There are severe plumbing problems and I'm not sure if they are fixable or not because they're not sharing the information with us.
