Cathay Pacific online check-in asking for visa details for Philippines (Balikbayan privilege)

Hi everyone, during online check-in Cathay Pacific is asking me to enter “Visa / Permanent Resident Card details” for the Philippines. I’m entering using Balikbayan privilege, so I do not actually have a Philippine visa.

The only options showing are:

  • Visa
  • Permanent Resident Card
  • Resident Alien Card

Has anyone experienced this before?

Did you:

  • pick one of the options anyway?
  • leave it incomplete and finish document verification at the airport?
  • have any issues boarding?

I’ll be bringing my Canadian passport plus proof of former Philippine citizenship / Philippine birth certificate.

Thanks in advance!

Cathay Pacific diabetes kit question

First time flying Cathay Pacific from Toronto to the Philippines with a Hong Kong layover. I have a glucose meter kit with lancets and test strips (no insulin), and I saw on their website that they recommend a doctor’s letter for needles/medical supplies.

Has anyone here traveled with a diabetes testing kit and had no problems without a doctor’s letter?

Did you keep the lancets in your carry-on or checked luggage? Any issues with Pearson or Hong Kong security?

Just wanna make sure before my flight 😅

Hi everyone,

I recently started checking my blood sugar (prediabetic) and I’m using the Contour Next One. The meter was easy to get, but I didn’t realize how expensive the strips are 😞

I’m a student and a mom of 3 with no insurance, so paying for strips regularly is really tough.

Does anyone in Canada know:

  • where to get cheaper Contour Next strips
  • any coupons, pharmacy programs, or manufacturer support
  • or if switching to another meter is more affordable long-term

Any tips would really help. Thank you 🙏
