Seeking advice: Iceland visa from Canada with less than three months on residence visa after departure. Work permit valid till 2028

Hi all, this community has been immensely helpful while preparing for my various Schengen appointments in the past. This time I seem to be in a tricky situation, so hoping someone with similar experience can chime in.

I am applying for Iceland tourist visa from Canada. My first application was rejected because "The applicant did not submit an original Canadian permanent residence card or visa that is valid for at least three months after the date of re-entry as is required". At the time my Canadian visa and work permit both were expiring in August 2026, and the planned trip end date is July 2026.

Recently I've been able to get a work permit that expires in 2028, well beyond planned trip dates. But my visa hasn't renewed yet, both because it's not expired and renewing is going to take too long that I won't be able to submit it to a Schengen application in time before my trip. I do have US visa though, and a legitimate reason to visit the US after the trip, which I didn't have yet in previous application. Has anyone had any experience with an itinerary like this?

Applying for Iceland tourist visa in Canada. Valid, employed current worker status in Canada.

Planned trip begin: Canada to Iceland, late June 2026

Planned trip end: Iceland to USA, early July 2026

Travel Documents in hand:

  • Canada work permit, valid till 2028
  • Canadian Temporary Residence Visa, valid till end of August, 2026
  • USA B-1 (visitor visa), valid till 2034

Has anyone applied with similar itinerary? What documents will they check against? I understand that the literal word of the regulations says:

>For travellers proceeding to onward travel (not returning to Canada), after leaving the territory of the Member States: Travel reservation (plane/train ticket) and relevant visa or travel document authorising entry into the country of destination.

But unsure whether they are still going to check me for the Canadian Temporary Residence Visa. Thanks in advance!
