Advice gratefully received! Broken ankle not healed

So I had my ankle and leg broken when a very heavy stone statue landed on it. Original X-ray in pic. Tip of tibia then third of the way up fibula. Fractures were united no surgery needed. It was put in a cast and I was told I could weight bear as tolerated straight away. After 8 weeks had cast removed, told doc I was in pain to touch over the breaks and it didn’t feel healed. He refused to do an xray and discharged me with no follow up and said “In a few weeks you won’t know you ever did it” and told me to walk as much as I could as that was physio.

I’m now 5 weeks after that and I asked to go back as I now have considerable pain in my ankle. Saw a different doc today, new xray, shows the fibula fracture is in the process of healing well with callous formed but the tibia in ankle looks worse on xray than when I first did it! He sort of agreed and said it’s still fractured due to too much stress on it and I should be monitored closely to ensure it doesn’t move etc! Given me an airboot and told me I can only walk wearing it and not to overdo it…..follow up in 2 months. So basically the bad advice of the first doc has caused delayed healing maybe? I had been walking as much as I could with no support.

He said not to worry it can take anywhere up to 18 months to heal (not from what I’ve heard here?!) and that it just needs protecting more. He said the ankle shows osteopenia where it’s healing - is that good as in new bone forming or is my whole ankle going to end up weak??? He said my type 1 diabetes may be making it harder to heal but the other fracture is doing well so that doesn’t make sense. I’m also vaping extremely low nicotine having stopped smoking to help healing but now I’m blaming that, although again other fracture is fine.

Basically want some reassurance and opinions on peoples experience and advice they’ve received compared to mine.

This hospital did kill my mum only three years ago so my trust in them is zero.
