Why Kai is easily one of the greatest villains of DreamWorks.

Why Kai is easily one of the greatest villains of DreamWorks.

When people think about Kai, they usually think that he is a regular villain who turned evil randomly by choice. But, they fail to understand his backstory completely. People say he's a "bad" villain only because of his backstory. Let me explain to you how deep it actually is.

Kai and Oogway were once close friends 500 years prior to KFP3. They both trained and fought alongside each other and Kai treated him as his own brother. After they were both injured, Kai risked his life carrying him. Kai carried the dying Oogway for days through harsh climates looking for help. Until they came across a panda village. The pandas healed Oogway and helped both Kai and Oogway master the art of giving chi. Kai wanted the chi powers all to himself. He saw that what could be given, can also be taken, thus inventing the new art of stealing chi. Oogway had to stop him because he saw the darkness in his heart. Oogway fought against Kai and sadly, Kai lost. Imagine risking your whole life to save a loved one, only for him to switch sides, betray you, and kill you. That is just so sad. Kai returned to the Mortal world thinking he would be recognized by everyone, but no one knew who he was. Kai realized that Oogway had destroyed his memory and left behind only a single scroll. That’s very heartbreaking. Kai’s desire to destroy Oogway’s memory was reasonable after all Oogway did the same to him. And all that 500 years shi wasted for NOTHING. Kai didn’t deserve this. It is not fair at all

After his banishment, Kai hated Oogway so much that he went on spending 500 years defeating every master in the Spirit Realm and eventually going against Oogway the second time. Kai defeated him easily and achieved two of his goals, defeating Oogway and returning to the Mortal Realm. Kai is also one of the most important characters in the trilogy as Oogway could have pretty much died if he hadn't saved him. Without Kai, there is no Oogway. Without Oogway, there is no Dragon Warrior and all that stuff. Kung Fu Panda wouldn't have happened without Kai. Calling Kai a bad villain is proof of your lack of understanding. After all, Oogway destroyed almost all memory of him and left behind only a single scroll. How do you expect to get a full detailed backstory of someone through a single scroll which only contained their past fight? It is our job to understand it deeply. Kai was meant to be a much darker villain. Kung Fu Panda 3 was also meant to be a much darker movie. The only reason it slid into comedy was because Kung Fu Panda 2 was already very dark enough.

He is also the coolest, strongest and oldest out of them all. He has the same spiritual knowledge as Oogway. Every master you've seen and admired, have all fallen into the hands of General Kai. Oogway was the real dick here. Betraying his best friend who risked his whole life just because he defeated a few PANDAS?! Always runs away by the fact that whatever happens for a reason. Like once or twice, we understand. But everytime something happens, it's always because of this hooligan. He should have been beaten to death by at least one guy and thankfully that one guy was Kai.

Kai beat every master with ease. Including Oogway. Until Po mastered chi, Kai was the strongest master in the whole trilogy. Kai not only has the best physique, he also has the best theme song. His theme song is also slightly similar to Oogway's. Which makes sense because Kai is described to be Oogway's polar opposite. Yin and Yang.

In the Jade Palace scene, everyone always talks about the entrance, but the moment he destroys Oogway's legacy with that melancholy, almost haunting rendition of Oogway Ascends gives me goosebumps. Kai destroys Oogway’s legacy is pure horror. It’s not just the music itself, its what it is representing now. Kai was once Oogway’s closest friend, and now he’s destroying everything Oogway stood for. The music that once represented peace, and wisdom is now accompanying its own destruction. It's honestly the film's biggest emotional gut punch in my opinion, yet barely anyone mentions it. You can clearly see how sad and disturbing the scene feels. It feels like watching Oogway’s entire legacy being erased right in front of you, with that haunting music playing like it’s the only thing left to remember him by. In one of Kai’s deleted scripts/scene, he fully expresses his anger against Oogway. Instead of saying “I will show you the true power of chi brother.” He says “How hideous Oogway. From the vain?.. after I shatter that face of your into dust." Its much scarier than what he says before. (Im not sure if this deleted scene exists but it was told to me by a friend)

Kai was the real underdog without any blessing or destity thing. Real hero. They all deserved to die. KFP3 was THE best movie and General Kai was THE best villain in the franchaise IDC what yall say. All hail General Kai

The Chameleon's full form was pathetic..

For a minute, watching that last part of the movie for the first time during 2024, I thought we finally have a stronger villain than Kai but I was dead wrong. What the heck was that weak dragon form? The Chameleon in her dragon form was mid diffed by Base Po. Zhen did not do any help because Po was only trying to save her because The Chameleon grabbed her and flew away. All po had to do was get onto her Kai horns (which he did easily) and started to turn the dragon on his own using the staff and his strength alone (0 special abilities like chi btw). She was struggling to control her own body. She couldn't even fly properly. That's more embarrassing considering this is supposed to be her "full form". She performed better in her Po form. What a pathetic villain. The Chameleon had so much potential. Her concept was ruined and wasted. Imagine if they had elaborated her backstory and giving her more dramatic scenes...

Valak's true form near the end of Conjuring 2

The clip is edited to make Valak more clearer. The clip is taken from my Youtube video

Am I the only one to notice this?

In the train scene in Conjuring 2, when Lorraine speaks to Bill and Valak is behind him. You can clearly see that Valak's right hand doesn't look "human". They are claws. You can clearly see in the other picture that they look different from Valak's normal "human" hands. Maybe it's Valak's true form.

It lowkey resembles a raptor.

Is Valak The Nun, really the same demon as Valac/Volac/Valak?

(I will refer the other Valak as Valac)

Incase if you're confused about who Valac is. Valac is some random demon from some religious book called Ars Goetia, which some people think is the same demon as Valak from the Conjuring Universe. I don't believe this because there is just no evidence in themovies that say this. Valac and Valak do completely different things. If youve been on the conjuring fandom for some time, you will know that a lot of people call Valak the Great President of Hell or some sh. President of hell is Valac's title, not Valak's. No where in the movies its stated that Valak is the President of Hell. All Valac does is find treasures and serpents and tell them to a magician, but it never actually fights humans and is usually regarded as a passive demon. Valak, on the other hand, goes against God, fights humans, high mastery of telekinesis, possessions, shapeshifting, and more. The stuff they do is completely different. Valac is also never shown to shapeshift into a nun in the texts. Their true forms look nothing alike either. Valac is a winged angelic boy riding a 2 headed dragon. Valak is a six horned, tall, black-winged creature with claws resembling a raptor. Some people refer Valak as a male demon because of this reason. In the movies, they always referred Valak as "it".

The only thing that's similar between them is their name and their connection to snakes/serpants. Valak's name can be inspired from Valac though. I mean, Valak is a nice name. Some people say Valak is inspired from Valac but there's no similarity other than their names and their connection to snakes. James Wan explained that the Nun character in the movie was actually inspired by a hooded entity that Lorraine claimed had haunted her in her home. After reading some more websites, I learnt that they did infact confirm to get the name from a demonology text. But, that wouldn't mean that theyre the same demon. It kinda pisses me off when I hear people calling Valak as "The Grand President of Hell". They think theyre glazing Valak but theyre pretty much doing the opposite. This is just downplaying Valak. Valac is some random demon mid ranking demon. Valak is stronger than Valac as well. Valak wins because he has more feats. Valac just doesn't have any feats other than knowing how to locate treasures lol.

Am I missing something? Did they really confirm Valac and Valak to be the same demon? I don't seem to find any reliable sources actually confirming that theyre the same demon with any valid evidence. I really need to get this thought off my head.

How did Kai and Po recognise each other?

How did Kai recognise Po as the dragon warrior and knew exactly that Po is the one who's destined to stop him?. Oogway implied someone else would stop him, but he never outright said it was the dragon warrior. Not a single villain recognised Po as the dragon warrior. Kai sensed his chi and immediately knew he was the dragon warrior and kinda respected him for it but fell for his ragebait once again like how he fell for Oogway lol.

How did Po know some of Kai's titles? I mean, I'm pretty sure the scroll is the only way to get information about Kai (assuming it is), it did not contain "Beast of Vengeance" or "Maker of Widows", so did the scroll contain his titles or Po and Kai have the same spiritual knowledge like Oogway? or is it because they were a Master of Chi?

Edit: So a lot of geniuses in the comments dont seem to understand my point. My main question is, how did Kai know Po was the dragon warrior? How did Po know Kai's titles?
