Okay, that title is intentionally provocative. 😂

But I genuinely mean the second part.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about the Remake project, and despite appreciating the incredible amount of work that has clearly gone into these games, I've come away feeling that FFVII Remake and Rebirth don't work for me as Final Fantasy VII games.

I don't mean they're technically bad games. The presentation is phenomenal, the voice acting is excellent, the combat is incredibly polished, and there are absolutely moments where I can understand why people love them.

But for me, there are fundamental creative decisions in the Remake project that make it difficult for me to connect with the story in the same way I connected with the original.

And that's where I'd genuinely like to be challenged.

If you absolutely love Remake and Rebirth, tell me why.

Not "you're nostalgic."

Not "just play the OG."

Not "you're wrong."

Actually tell me what you think these games do better.

What do you think the Remake project adds to Cloud, Aerith, Sephiroth, Tifa and the wider FFVII story?

Do you think the changes genuinely strengthen the original themes?

Do you think the Whispers, alternate realities and meta-narrative make the story more interesting?

Does Rebirth's approach to the characters and world justify the enormous expansion of the original?

And perhaps most importantly:

If someone genuinely dislikes the direction of the Remake trilogy, what do you think they're missing?

I'm perfectly happy to have my mind changed here.

I'd actually prefer someone to give me a thoughtful argument that makes me go:

"Okay... I hadn't considered that."

Because I think the FFVII community would benefit from being able to disagree about these games without immediately turning the discussion into OG vs Remake, nostalgia vs modern gaming, or accusing each other of being "real" fans.

So...

I think FFVII Remake and Rebirth are awful.

Change my mind. 😎

I know that this is educated from my experience of the OG game… but I feel that what’s to come should mirror with what we got in Rebirth… a glimpse of the past warnings for the future.

So we begin with footage and its Professor Gast and Ifalna talking about The Cetra, their demise, weapon and Jenova… building up the things were in for later in the game. Along with their relationship growing along the way and seeing “Baby Aerith” at some point. Culminating in to the final footage of Hojo, murdering Gast and kidnapping Ifalna and Aerith.

This then goes from the static of the tv where we see Cloud and the gang absorbing the information they have seen. Before they can ponder further they’re ambushed by The Turks. This leads to an explosive escape from the icicle village which culminates in to the very first mini game introduced… snowboarding towards ground zero of Gaeas Cliff…

Again, feels like a “No shit Sherlock!” explanation, but if we at least get this… then I know it’s gonna be an intriguing start to the final chapter of FFVIIR

Thoughts?

What did I just witness!? Seriously!? I dunno how I got those three on a lads night out! Going to see a show and skywheel! I was too stunned to get a pic of it! Like “What f**k is this goofy sh*t!?” Kinda stunned!

Has anybody ever gotten this!? I need help reacting to something here!!!!!!
