Green/brown water

52 litre tank, 11 gallons, home to 4 cardinal tetras, plastic ornaments, air pump and sponge filter. Will the addition of live plants and nerite snails help? It’s been properly cycle and I’ve used green away but it’s not worked. Any advice?

Hi, recently got my son a 52l aquarium, currently stocked with just 5 cardinal tetras for now. Had it since December. I’ve been battling green/brown water for months. Its got a fluval pump with a clean and clear cartridge in. Gravel substrate but only plastic ornaments. Water tests are fine. It doesn’t have an air pump in, tried it but it seemed to freak the fish out. I do weekly 10% water changes and a 50 every so often. Tried green away but that did nothing. Lights are not on through the day. Would some aqua soil and some live plants do the trick? I was thinking of getting some small cat fish and some nerite snails too. Any advice from those more experienced would be appreciated.
