Feel stuck in a low-paying role I am over-qualified for - advice appreciated

Hi everyone, I work in a SG-06 role that does not require a bachelor’s degree. I graduated from college a couple of years ago, job-hunted for over a year, and applied to this position because I was getting desperate. Although I am grateful for the opportunity, the work itself is so mind-numbing that I dread going in, and the pay is about as low as the state can get away with.

I’d like to apply to other roles because I worry that, now that I’m in my mid-20s, remaining in this position for too long could hurt my career prospects. However, this is an agency I could see myself working for long-term in a different capacity, and leaving so soon could potentially limit my chances of being rehired if I were to reapply after going back to school.

I’d also like to be able to call on my manager as a reference for other opportunities down the line, and I worry that resigning before the one-year mark could make her less willing to serve as one.

What should I do? Finish probation or start applying to other jobs? If there’s any other non-identifying information that would be helpful in answering, I’m happy to provide it. Thanks!
