For the guys that grew up on 80’s cartoons

Been working on a new album of beats from the 80’s cartoons I grew up with! Here’s the first video! Full album should be out after the summer but will be releasing videos in the mean time. Here’s the first to coincide with the He Man remake due out (which can’t be as a good as dolph lundgrens performance)

I put some limitations in the tracks:
All main samples from S1 E1 of each cartoon
Only added bass, drums and occasional guitar.
Thanks in advance if you have a listen and look!

Review: half the speed of sound

The opener broods a stillness before the storm. It gradually lets you know that something sinister is on the way. The klangy, post apocalyptic synth, followed by reversed drones keep a pulsating tension, the grinding industrial tone takes you to a dystopian future, with pitched down, minimal drums that evoke imagery of the t1000, on a mission to kill but stuck on a thick, sticky treacle like ground.

The album continues in a similar, yet evolving vain, with cinematic, cello like strings on ‘another moonlight’, blended with the electronic sounds of a post human evolution.

‘The other side’ is a fitting title that brings a nice mid point sense of hope that humans haven’t been eradicated. the piano adds a nostalgic, video game feel that took me back to early silent hill soundtracks. Some of the glitchy type drums mixed with the organic orchestral sounds evokes murcofs remembranza. An all time fave of mine.

As we reach the second half of the album, the fear of falling gives a sense that the cyborgs are fading, the track evolves into a melancholic, wistful Middle that comes back to what feels like the climax of human vs robot war. The closer ‘paper planes’ hints at a more traditional, trip hop type style song, particularly with the drums and how the snare/rim shot rings out. The album has been a real journey, that I thought would be a dark, twisted and sinister one! however it’s been a windy road, with ups and downs, leaving a bittersweet, hopeful and nostalgic longing. This album felt it belonged in the past, present and the future simultaneously. One thing is fore sure, it left me wanting more.
