Tokyo Immigration Woes - Moving and Changing Jobs While Visa Renewal is still being processed

Hi, I applied for a visa renewal (I had 5 year one if relevant) in the middle of March. It expires at the end of May, and thus now end of July due to the two month extension.

I went in to check on the status today, as two months had passed and they told me it was still being processed and could take until the final day at the end of July before I receive the postcard in the mail.

However, I am considering moving prefectures and changing jobs for an urgent but good position that would require me to move to the other side of the country mid-June.

I brought this up to immigration but they told me I can only pick up the visa from where I applied (Tokyo) but I could call the nearest immigration to check the status. And when give my two week move it notice at city hall they will pass on my new address to Tokyo immigration so I can receive the card.

Now, there are several problems.

  1. Has anyone actually experienced having their new card issued on the last day, or near the last day before their current visa expires?

  2. Were you able to receive the notification in the mail at your new address without issue?

  3. If you changed jobs, and submitted the notification for change in employment online while your visa was under renewal, did that affect your visa being renewed?

  4. Lets assume I even get hired with this insecure visa status. I still have to move. Were any of you able to move or find new places to live when your residence card is two months and some change away from expiring?

Any advice or stories of similar personal experience would be greatly appreciated!
