Vanlifer (almost) - Building an iOverlander replacement — but first, I need your help
Hey everyone — my name's Gregg, and in about 3 months I'm making the jump to full-time van life.
I've been working up to it. I currently run a modified 4Runner with a RTT, and bunch of other stuff, and have done trips up to a month living out of it, so I'm not completely green — but I know full-timing is a different animal. I'm equal parts excited and terrified, which probably means I'm doing it right.
A little background: I've been a software engineer and developer for 20+ years. Like a lot of you, I was a heavy user of iOverlander — and like a lot of you, thought V2 was a huge disappointment
So I'm building something better. I'm still early in development and before I go too far down the road, I want to make sure I'm actually solving the right problems — not just the ones I think exist from my own experience.
That's where you come in.
- What did you love about iOverlander V1 (or similar apps) that you've lost?
- What do apps like this consistently get WRONG?
- What's the one feature you've always wanted that doesn't exist anywhere?
- What would make you actually trust and consistently use an app like this?
I'm going to be living this life alongside you in a few months. I want to build something the community actually wants — and that starts with shutting up and listening.
This only works if it's built with the community, not just for it. Let's figure this out together.
