Subpoenaed for a case I barely remember to appear two weeks before birth
LOCATION: Missouri
I just received a subpoena to appear as a witness for the prosecution in a forgery case from 2022. I worked in banking at the time and someone tried to pass a fake check then ran when police showed up. I’m not exaggerating when I say that’s literally the only thing I remember from the interaction. The name sounds vaguely familiar but I had to look up the details to even remember that much. Under normal circumstances I would be mildly annoyed but fine with showing up. The problem is I’m currently pregnant and very high risk. My c section is scheduled for 8/4 and the trial is on 7/14. My doctor made it very clear that we were only scheduling the c section because we had to and it’s very likely that I will need an emergency section before that.
Do I have any options here? Should I call and tell them that I remember basically nothing from that day? If I go into labor or need emergency surgery and don’t make it to court are they going to issue a bench warrant? This was definitely stress that I don’t need right now.
