Anyone know what’s going on here?

Anyone know what’s going on here?

hoping to remove this small section of wall that is between two closets in a home that has been extensively renovated inside and hoping someone can tell by looking at all this what it is/was?

I don’t think any of this is currently doing anything but I have no clue and don’t know how to go about figuring that out.

The two wires that continue down and out of frame go through the floor to somewhere in a crawl space I can’t see. Thanks for any input!

Edited to just say thank you to everyone who responded, so helpful I really appreciate it!

Advice on first tile job

This is a kitchen wall, this will be my first tile job. We are taking down the old, black glass tile. The large open space where there was no tile is where a cabinet was hung. We are tiling over this entire wall and doing open shelving (I know) so it will be quite a large wall of tile. The new tiles are heavy- 4x4 inch zellige tile (I know, I know, trust me). My question is- what do we do to prep the wall once we have all the old tile down since it is a mixture of the brown, exposed drywall paper as well as painted drywall. Thank you for any and all advice!!
