HIV risk from blood touching tiny finger prick during sugar test?
Hell doctors
I’m diabetic and use a glucose meter at home. Today I initially thought of testing myself and opened a fresh lancet. It lightly pricked my finger but I didn’t really see blood at first. Then I tested one of my family members twice because the reading was not showing properly.
Later while trying to throw out the glucose test strip, I noticed some blood on my finger and got confused whether it was my own initial prick blood or the other person’s blood that may have touched while handling the strip.
The other person is not diagnosed with HIV or anything, but I’m asking generally for awareness/anxiety reasons. If there is a tiny opening from the initial prick and another person’s blood touches that area externally, what are the chances of HIV transmission if hypothetically the person had HIV?
The lancet itself was not reused between people. Mainly worried about possible blood contact near the small prick area.
