Leaving a barn with 2 week notice for health and safety reasons. Advice needed.

I’m in a pretty tough situation right now and I’m looking for advice. To make matters worse my partner is currently away for work until the end of the month so I’m facing this alone.

We keep our horses at a boarding facility. This used to be a pretty good place but has gone downhill quite a bit over the last year or so. Iv been at this facility for I want to say 5 years or so. I left briefly for like 6 months to someone I thought was a friend but that turned ugly and this barn owner bailed me out / took me back last minute to which I am extremely grateful. I don’t WANT to screw over this BO but I have to think of my horses first and foremost.

However - without listing too many details in fear of somehow other boarders see this and put 2 and 2 together - it has gone downhill to the point where it is now affecting my horses welfare and my state of mind quite a bit. The barn used to be my happy place and I now dread going there because there’s always something wrong and it just stresses me out beyond words. My horses almost always never having hay outside in a dry lot is one of them. All our concerns have basically fallen on deaf ears and I’m exhausted.

I’m going to look at a wonderful facility tomorrow who knows of this place I’m currently at and doesn’t mind me coming basically whenever because she is also worried about my horses. My issue is this:

  1. we give 2 weeks notice and detail the reasons why we’re leaving so quickly - health and safety concerns - hence this is not a proper notice. Leaving me to deal with the awkwardness alone until my partner returns

  1. don’t even know if this option is possible (finances) but if we give proper notice now I’d be paying half board to my current place since we would be “leaving” in the middle of the month (I’d leave sooner. I can’t stand them being there another month) and full board to this other facility which is more expensive.

Thank you for reading this far 🙏

Camping suggestions - accessible (ish) back country?

Hello fellow campers,

Me, my boyfriend and his 12 year old son are looking at planning a short 2 or 3 night camping trip. We are located in southern Ontario and don’t mind a drive to find the perfect spot.

I have plenty of back country experience but my boyfriend and his son have none. I’m hoping to find a spot that is hike in but not difficult or crazy long to make it enjoyable for the kiddo. I don’t want to go the route of car camping because it looks too overcrowded for our liking.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Thank you!! 🏕️
