Open myomectomy
I had an open myomectomy ten weeks ago and it went super well according to my doctor. I did have a large amount of swelling though. My doctor mentioned it is normal and has to do with the fact that I’m skinny (5’9 126 lbs for reference). At both check ups she mentioned it so I’m assuming my swelling is worse than normal. I only had one large fibroid removed and she didn’t have to go inside the endometrial cavity. However, my concern comes here: I’m ten weeks post op and I still have that post surgery “shelf” above the scar and a bit of pooch. I know my weight is a slight factor, but is it still normal to have a shelf this far after surgery even at my weight? I have tried some massages and scar tape. The area is still tender though so I’m hesitant to rub it and the scar tape started itching and my skin started feeling a bit raw.
I’m looking for recommendations/stories about how long it took for you to go back to normal visually? I am ready for my pants to fit normally again or I guess mental preparation that they never will again.
Editing to add: there has always been asymmetry at the incision. The left side isn’t nearly as tight and doesn’t really shelf (this was the side of the fibroid). The right side is super tight and shelf is fairly bad. This has been consistent from day one. The doctor said it might be because she started on the right side and went to the left side, but I’m still just anxious.
