Potentially commissioning a Wakizashi

There are so many experts and individuals with all this unique knowledge. I have learned a lot but I have so much more to learn. I am currently discussing a functional wakizashi and kogatana commission with a Japanese smith. My goal is a historically grounded piece inspired by my Edo-period wakizashi rather than a modern “performance” or fantasy-style build.

My current direction:
Functional blade with traditional handling characteristics

Edo-inspired proportions and feel

Moderate sori

Chu-kissaki

Likely suguha or subtle notare hamon

Traditionally differential hardening

Understated fittings and koshirae

Considering a darker visible-grain/stained wood saya rather than fully opaque lacquer

Medical Kits no

What type of first aid kit are you all taking to the range? I also want to get something to have when SHTF. Anyone else buying something like this?
