Selling my Canon RP kit to downsize — torn between Fujifilm and Sony. What would you do?
I currently shoot with a Canon EOS RP paired with a 35mm and 50mm prime. I love shooting RAW and editing — I’ve even framed and hung a few prints on the wall. The image quality isn’t the issue. The problem is I hate carrying two lenses, and the RP body is bulky enough that I end up leaving it at home more than I’d like. I’m planning to sell the full kit (expecting around $800) and want to move to something significantly more compact, ideally paired with a single zoom lens at f/2.8 or faster. No video needs whatsoever — this is purely stills, travel, and hobby shooting. (I’m ok with spending the difference between the recommended kit and what I get from selling mine).
After a lot of research (Claude xD) I’ve narrowed it down to a few options :
Fujifilm X-T5 with the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 or Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8
Fujifilm X100VI — love the idea of a fixed 35mm equivalent, same 40MP sensor, but nervous about committing to one focal length
Sony a7C II — full-frame in a compact body, but Sony’s f/2.8 zoom lenses tend to be large
Sony a6700 — great AF, solid APS-C, more affordable, but 26MP feels like a lateral move from the RP
*Honorable Mention* - Canon G7x II or III. Has great reviews but I’m hesitant to switch from mirrorless to fully digital
For context: I use my 35 more often than my 50 but pull my phone out to zoom, I care about dynamic range and shadow recovery for editing, shoot purely for my own enjoyment, and occasionally frame my best shots to display in my home.
Would love hear what advice you guys have to offer.
TL;DR - Canon RP with a 35 & 50 prime Lens is too big. Need something compact for travel
