Placement Questions!

Hello everyone! I am currently a second semester nursing student and have some questions about placement! This is my final week of my first placement at aged care and I think it's going well and has given me a strong grasp of basic nursing skills. I have been working closely with the carers during morning shifts for ADLs and the site RN's to practice vital obs, wound care and BGLs but in preparation for the end of placement and the beginning of my next (Rehab in hospital setting) I wanted to ask if anyone has more advice to get more involved!

What I'm currently doing each shift:

  • Assistance with showers (Bed bath, dressing, )
  • Assistance with feeding (Meal preparation, feeding and IDDSI scale preparation)
  • Assistance with mobility aids
  • Therapeutic communication with residents
  • Making beds
  • Assistance with incontinence aids
  • Familiarising myself with care plans
  • Reporting to RN any resident concerns about pain
  • Administration of inhaler and eye-drops (Can't do oral medication)

I would like to try and maximise my experience with my remaining 3 days and really engage in the shift, sometimes the carers are in a rush and I'm just doing minimal assistance, but I was wondering if there was a way to support them considering I'm not familiar with the resident's routines like permanent site carers.

For the rehabilitation placement, was there anything I should be actively aware of before starting! I have a question, I would really appreciate any advice on :)

> What are rehab wards like? I am not familiar at all and have read that it's similar to aged care except it's nurses doing the care!
