How much are you making working in a barbershop ?

I just opened a barbershop in NJ , I have just one barber working under me , and I have two open chairs. We have been open for one month. The one barber I have made 10k in his pocket our first month open. I’m having a very difficult time finding another barber for work. What is the average barber earning at a shop after paying commissions/rent to the owner? I feel like this is a lot higher than average and yet I’m having a difficult time to find another barber. I feel like barbers get super comfortable in their environment and just don’t have that motivation to grow. Or are they are just loyal to their circumstance?
As a barber working at a shop - help me get some clarity. What would hold you back from changing over to a shop with higher earning potential ?

A turning point in my career was my first big tipping client (double $). He’s totally bald on top and payed 200 for a 15 minute basic service. After this encounter realized that the client I am trying to attract is not the young flashy kid who needs that burry low drop fade. Those usually end up taking time and a half of a regular haircut and typically they aren’t throwing you some extra bills. The middle aged successful businessman is where the bags at. They come very frequently, they never touch a trimmer at home but need to look neat all the time. They get a basic haircut that you can consistently ace for them every time. And the top of the bunch will pay you good money to make sure that you take care of them. So I don’t show off the blurry fades anymore, rather I take extreme care of the patrons that take care of me, and attract their circles to visit me as well. And now I have a large clientele of basic haircuts that pay me top dollar and I can do 20 per day.

Moral of the story:

Bald Guy > Blurry Guy all day long
