Difficulty Finding Ferrets in Florida

Does anyone know of any active ferret breeders in Florida?

I lost my ferret of 5 years a couple of months ago, and he was genuinely my best friend. I work from home and spent most of my day with him, so the house has felt very empty since he passed. I have a lot of love, time, and attention that I enjoyed giving to him, and I would love the opportunity to give another ferret.

I initially looked into rescues, but all of the ferrets I’ve found are older bonded pairs or groups. A single ferret makes the most sense for my situation. I was hoping to find a younger ferret that I could raise and bond closely with from the start and hopefully have more years with.

I started researching private breeders because I’d prefer not to purchase a Marshall ferret if possible, but I can’t seem to find any active breeders in Florida. At this point I’ve called all pet stores within roughly a 3-hour radius of myself in Southwest Florida and haven’t been able to find a single ferret available anywhere. I was told by one store that the current shortage may be related to Marshall Farms relocating or changing facilities.

Does anyone know of any reputable breeders in Florida that are still producing kits? Also, does anyone have any insight into when ferrets may start becoming available again in pet stores?

Any recommendations or leads would be greatly appreciated.
