Senior Cat F 14 Years with Tooth Pain? Med Side Effects?
Good Morning my Little (Large) Luna (Tuna) started experiencing pain on the left side of her mouth so much so when she would eat chunky/hard food or cold water it would force her to meow in discomfort and beging to take her left paw to try and rub that side of her face...she also really lost her appetite since food had been hurting her.We got her into the vet on Wednesday last week and she'd been seen 2 months ago for shots and the Doctor at that time noticed one of her very very back teeth looked irritated and we were told to keep an eye on it (they marked it a 2?) Back to this last Wednesday this different doctor made a comment about how it shouldn't have progressed that bad in 2 months (honestly Luna does not really let anyone near her face she never has since we got her ) but she determined that we should probably have the teeth extracted after nothing the left side of her face was a little swollen under the eye and from the visit 2 months prior she is down 2 Lbs. but they're only doing surgeries on Tuesdays and her appointment is not until June 16th. She was given some antibiotics and 100MG of Gabipenten both she gets every 12 hours .
She sucks at taking pills as she needs to be a cozy purrito before we can even attempt to administer the pills.
After the pills she is/has been super lethargic and shes trying to hide in spots she doesn't think we will look in so I guess my question (s) are is this typical behavior for a cat with just tooth pain?
And does Gabipenten really zonk anyone else's cat out for 80% of the 12 hours?
I just worry as shes an older lady . The 16th cant come soon enough I miss my spunky 14 year old kitty.
We are able to get her to eat canned Chicken and Tuna but we tried mixing the meds in the chicken now she swore off all chicken :(
(First 3 pictures are of her this last week and the last 3 are her over the years with picture . Being the 1st day she came home with us )
