MATH 523 vs. MATH 447?

Entering my last year with a BSc minor in statistics and I have 3x complimentary courses to take.

I had planned on taking MATH 208 in the fall, MATH 308 in the winter, and MATH 447 in the winter.

However, I’ve heard nightmare stories about the 447 professor from this past winter semester (Prof. Louigi Addario Berry) and looking at the class average, I am horrified that if I take it I could possibly fail since I only am taking stats as a minor and wouldn’t say I have the strongest background. This would also be my last semester at McGill so if I failed, I would not be able to graduate.

I chose 447 originally because it was the only 3 credit course on the complimentary list that I could take with my current pre-reqs and courses taken (can’t take 209 or any comp courses). I was considering 427 but it’s not offered.

Soooo after seeing that the Prof for Winter 2027 would be Louigi again, I started to freak out considering I had no other option… however I forgot to look through the 4 credit complimentary courses as potential options for that slot.
I found MATH 523 which I’ll be able to take after doing 423 in the winter, and it’s taught by Johanna Neslehova. The average last semester they taught was a B+, compared to the B- avg of 447…

Taking 523 would put me at 121 credits (which I believe is fine) but I fear that it being a 4 credit course might be more work than I can handle??

If anyone has any insight on 523 with Johanna or 447 with Louigi, I would much appreciate it as I make my choice!!

EDIT:
I also realized for 4 credits I could take MATH 545 (Johanna Neslehova) or MATH 558 (Alia Sajjad). Any additional thoughts would be appreciated!! My concerns are mostly time consumption & ability to do well without a decent comp/coding background.
