ELI5: How are underground power lines connected to a residential building?
For reference, I live in Queens, NY and am fairly certain that my neighborhood is served by underground power lines, like most of NYC. My grandma's house in a rural area is currently served by a Single Wire Earth Return (SWER) system, with a large pole mount transformer along the road stepping down the voltage and sending the typical 2 hot and 1 neutral wires into the house.
In comparison, how is an underground cable connected to a house? Where is the transformer, and how does the cable typically enter the home?
