Has anyone successfully obtained ILR shortly after switching from Skilled Worker to Global Talent in similar circumstances? I entered the UK on 4 July 2023 on a Skilled Worker visa, switched to Global Talent (applied 26 June 2026, granted 16 August 2026), and completed 3 years' UK residence on 4 July 2026. Can I apply for ILR on 1 September 2026, or do I need to hold Global Talent status for a minimum period before applying? Has anyone had a successful ILR application shortly after receiving their Global Talent visa?

Hi everyone, I’d appreciate any advice regarding my situation, particularly from those who know about the Global Talent → ILR route.

I’m planning to switch to a Global Talent visa. I arrived in the UK in July 2023, and based on my timeline, I should be eligible for ILR about a month after switching (planning to apply for GTV next week).

I’m worried about potential immigration rule changes expected this autumn, especially whether time spent on my Skilled Worker visa will still count towards ILR.

I’m unsure which option is safer:

Option 1: Apply for a 1-year Global Talent visa (lower IHS cost), aiming to apply for ILR as soon as GTV is granted. Concerned about possible delays in getting the visa, which could mean missing the ILR window, if rules are changed
Option 2: Apply for a 3-year Global Talent visa to cover any rule changes, in case I can’t apply for ILR before new rules take effect.
My main concerns:
If rules change before I apply for ILR, I could lose eligibility based on my current visa history
If I pick 1 year and miss the ILR window, I’ll have to extend again, which adds cost and risk
If I pick 3 years, I’ll pay more upfront (IHS) but have more security
Has anyone faced something similar or have insight on:

Is it safer to prioritise cost (1-year) or security (3-year)?
Any practical experience switching to ILR soon after Global Talent?
Any advice or perspectives would be very helpful, especially from those who’ve recently gone through this.
