Canyons where wall meets the bottom

We have an inground pool, 4 years old. In the shallow end and especially on the transition from shallow to deep.....there is an indentation in the sand where the side meets the floor. I know it's sand settling over time and from people standing there etc.... Is this normal? Can it be fixed with a kettle ball or stomping around to move the sand back in place so it's flat again?

Solar Cover a giant piece of junk?

General question: How long does a solar cover typically last? We have had our pool for 4 years and when we cover the pool with the cover (it's on a roller) it continues to just rip apart. What is the longevity of these these things? Is there a better type of cover that isn't made of bubble wrap?
