Help! Broke thermostat prong when replacing boiler, what to do?
Hi Reddit!
I bought my first machine, a Gaggia Classic Pro in 2019 and wanted to upgrade from the original boiler to a brass one, and change the steam valve. I have near 0 experience with upgrade but was confident that with the tutorials I could do it easily.
Boy was I wrong… While following the Whole Latte Love video tutorial, I broke the tip of the thermostat and the prong was still stuck in the wire (see pictures). That thing was IMPOSSIBLE to disconnect, both my husband and I tried to get it out without success, until it broke… other wires in previous steps were also pretty hard to detach (I don’t know if it’s because my machine was old, but it was nothing near how easy it was for the guy in the video)
I am torn, what would be the best option?
A - Replace thermostat (and wire?), and continue the boiler upgrade but run the risk of breaking something else later in the process (because once again, some attachments feel almost fused together).
B - Send to repair, but I never did this, I dont know how long it will take nor how much it will cost and I have been pretty unlucky with shipping... Don’t know if I can even send the brass boiler and steam valve with it so they can upgrade it themselves.
C - Buy a new Gaggia Classic Pro and upgrade immediately (but i dont know if attachment would be easier to change when the machine is new VS old and if I could likely fall upon the same issues, but this time on a new machine…)
I hate waste and would rather save my current machine but don’t know if it‘s worth the trouble :/…
Thank you!
