Pain after getting new mattress
I started getting back pain sleeping on my old mattress. I am not sure what model it was, but the brand was Princess Mattress and it had a 2-3" topper built into it.
I started getting lower back muscle pain when waking up. I figured it was the mattress getting old (it was 7 years old), so I bought a new one.
I bought a $300 cheap-o twin mattress at a local mattress store. It is a Twin Vogue Gray Kingdom Company. My bed is elevated and I re-used my previous box spring (which is about 2" tall, is pretty small). I am not sure of the new mattress' exact firmness, but I would describe it as medium-firm. It does not have a topper built in like the old mattress because they said that was the softest they had in stock.
After getting this new mattress, my pain is worse. Specifically, the mattress causes lower back muscle pain. Adding a 2" foam topper from Amazon (SINWEEK 2 Inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper) moves my pain from the lower back to the abs.
I lay in bed on my back for an hour or two goofing off on my phone, then when I go to sleep I side sleep.
I'd say I have lower back muscle pain from sleeping every year or two. Usually some combination of doing sit ups and rear decline bridges, or replacing the mattress, will fix it. Not this time though. I'm in quite a bit of pain. Even my tried and true trick of blowing up an air mattress and putting it on top of my bed and sleeping on that isn't doing the trick this time.
Anyway, am wondering what my next move is. Should I go back to that mattress store and see if they'll swap it out? (They've done so in the past. But I am concerned since they said they don't have anything softer in stock, they'd have to order it.) Should I try out one of the online mattress-in-a-box solutions such as Helix? Should I try a higher quality or different thickness mattress pad/topper?
This sub's FAQ says that it can take the human body some time to adjust to new mattresses. Does pain go away if you just tough it out for X number of days?
Thanks in advance for ideas. I'd like to go back to sleeping without pain!
