Career Advice
Hey everyone, looking for some advice from people already in project management, logistics, operations, or supply chain.
I’m active duty military and have about 4 years of experience working in maintenance management analytics/logistics. I already have my associate’s degree and I’m currently working toward my bachelor’s.
I know I eventually want to transition into project management, operations, or something similar, but I’m honestly still trying to figure out what career path would make the most sense long term with my background.
I have worked around project managers on construction sites before and found the overall coordination/management side interesting, but I’m open to different industries and roles.
Right now I’m stuck between:
- BS in Business with a minor in Operations & Supply Chain Management
- BS in Logistics & Supply Chain Management
- General Business Administration degree
I’m also trying to obtain my CAMP certification while I’m still in the military and plan on getting more PM-related certs after I transition out.
I’ll be moving to the San Diego area at the end of the year, so I’m mainly looking for advice on what kind of jobs/career fields I should realistically aim for and what would give me the best opportunities.
For those already in these industries:
- What roles would you recommend someone with my background pursue?
- Would project management, operations, logistics, or supply chain be the better route?
- Which degree would set me up best?
- Does the degree matter as much as experience/certs?
- Has anyone here transitioned from military logistics/maintenance into civilian PM or operations roles?
I’d really appreciate hearing different experiences or advice because I’m trying to make the smartest decision before transitioning out.
