I renewed collecting Hot Wheels with a vengeance last year and today complete one year of happy and joyous ( mostly) experience.
I actively sought and became members of so many WhatsApp groups, sub forums and enthusiastically participated in ‘auctions’.
As mentioned, the experience / the hunts have been mostly joyous but marred intermittently by episodes of exposures to gutter people out to scam and scalp people.
I mean no one grudges anyone a honest profit for all the risk they take in investing in full cases and all the efforts they make in importing castings. But there is a huge difference in profit and profiteering.
Over the past year. Candidly speaking, I came across the following breed :
Over the past year. Candidly speaking, I came across all varieties of : The Good the Bad and the ugly and their qualities.
The Legits
Play fair. They make you believe in the power of goodness. Make available current trending stuff at ‘MRP’. Of course to sustain livelihood most have started to ‘club’ together peg-warmers. Buying from these makes sense even if you land up with multiple KoolCombi’s or are stuck with Honda Diorama at MRP 😬
Example- Maya Toys, Karz and Dolls, Gulati Emporium, etc
K& D is legit for MiniGT but scalper for HW
(Nb: The QSR apps, Crosswords, The Hamley’s and First Cry, get the super Legits Award)
The Scalpers
Cheet at every opportunity. Capitalise on the FOMO factor and Quote prices like there is no tomorrow and probably get these also.
Everyone has bought from them and cursed them. There is a common misconception that most are students but alas these are grown up full timers who also probably peddle drugs in spare time.
Amongst the scalpers also there are various grades from bad to worse. The worse ones overlapping scammers.
Example:
Toy Collectors India: Be very very careful of these gutter dwellers.
Diecast Nation - Bong guy Aakash Dey ( has criminal tendencies). Avoid if possible.
Frame the wheels
The scammers and scammers
The loowlife of Hot Wheels world. Lurk in online Diecast communities and passively solicit gullible fandom and then cheat with impunity. Only way to identify them is by experience and sticking to strict safety protocols.
What is your experience. ??
