How to make my clinical chemistry postdoc application stand out?

I am currently a rising 5th year phd candidate and am interested in applying for the fellowship (2027 cycle). How did you shortlist your schools - and whats a minimum number of schools to apply to increase your chances of getting an interview- cz it seems so competitive!

What pointers do you have to make the application stand out, what to include in letter of intent, in CV. I have a decent publication record, does it matter?

Also is it necessary for me to attend the ADLM, or its okay if i dont? I am thinking of reaching out to program directors for informational interviews, but what should i ask and not ask (to not have a bad impression cz they will also read my application too)

Any help would be recommended and i would love to connect with you! This year ADLM is in California and its gonna cost me a lot to attend the conference (i am from Midwest) so what are some alternatives to network and increase my chances of getting a position?

Clinical chemistry fits perfectly with my future goals as i get a balance of research, teaching, leadership and most importantly translational work and I really want to make this work for me.
