Currently a 12.8 hc but I’ve been around a 8 for years. Finally broke and got a lesson for some help. It was helpful but wasn’t what I expected. Paid $130 to get a 1 hour lesson from a guy that played on the web.com tour and PGA tour Canada. He basically told me I have a nice swing and get into the right positions but to tweak a few things to do it more consistently. We worked on standing up taller, getting closer to the ball, and extending my hands out a tiny bit further from my body. We then focused on rotating around my lead leg and keeping it stiffer versus leaning as I transition to the down swing and sinking into it while always finishing my swing through my lead shoulder as I was finishing too high on some shots or giving up on them shortly after the contact point. We also discussed the mental side of the game a bit and he encouraged me to aim for the safest spots, get to a number I like, and aim for the middle of the green. All stuff I know but don’t always do so it’s good to hear it from a former pro. Basically lower your HC by playing boring golf and letting the putter get hot to drain some putts while avoiding the big numbers. It was all good stuff and I feel like it will help my game. I hit 3 clubs the entire time (56, 8i, and 3h) and we only switched off my 8i because I asked if I should hit anything else.

I guess I thought we would do more fundamentals since I’ve never had a lesson (grip, stance, alignment etc) but he thought my fundamentals were good enough I didn’t need that? I’ll prob go back for a few more.

Just sharing my thoughts. Thanks if you got this far! Anyone have a similar experience or thoughts after their first lesson?
