Being Performative and the Psychology of Larping
Hello everyone i wrote an essay exploring how words like “performative” and “larping” mutated from relatively harmless concepts into accusations tied to authenticity, identity and legitimacy online.
It starts with social masking and performance as normal parts of human behaviour, then spirals into internet culture, fandoms, meme ecosystems, pseudo intellectualism, systems thinking aesthetics, The Matrix, JJK (a popular anime) brain rot, influencer authenticity, symbolic participation and why modern culture became hyper suspicious of sincerity itself.
Basically an attempt to trace how the internet blurred the line between embodiment and performance until even authenticity became aestheticised and marketable.
