After several unsuccessful attempts to find the right opportunity to use my Sports Management degree, I’ve decided to take a different route and get into sales as a life insurance agent.
I graduated from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama, with a degree in Sports Management, graduating cum laude, and I also had the opportunity to work with the Huntsville Havoc hockey organization. Sports is still something I’m passionate about, and I’m definitely still open to opportunities where I can use my degree and build a career in the sports industry.
At the same time, I’m looking at insurance sales as a way to challenge myself, develop strong sales and communication skills, build relationships, and create a career for myself.
For anyone who has experience in the insurance industry, is becoming a life insurance agent worth it, especially starting from scratch? What should a new agent know before getting into it? Is it a career you would recommend, and what separates the agents who succeed from those who don’t?
I’d really appreciate any honest advice, whether it’s positive or negative. And if anyone knows of sports-related opportunities where I could still put my degree to use, I’m definitely open to hearing about those as well.
Just trying to find the right path and make something happen with the education and opportunities I’ve worked for. Any advice or connections would mean a lot.
