Chances of Getting In
Hey everyone! This is my first post on here. Just got my MCAT score back and it’s a balanced 510. I know this puts me in the 507-510 bucket that many med schools have in their systems (per se). Below are some pertinent stats and I’m asking 1. Will I get into an MD program and 2. What’s my ceiling?
4.0 GPA from flagship state school (top 5 public in USA)
510 MCAT
Male
1750 hours volunteering in my city (think soup kitchens, food pantries, etc.
400 hours volunteering out-of-country in rural health clinics
1084 clinical hours as an ER PCT (tech) at a big hospital
400 shadowing hours across 4 doctors (ER, plastics, ortho, and cardio)
80 hours in research, 1 presentation, no publishing
4 LOR (my nurse boss, professor, plastic surgeon, PI)
Leadership as the president of a large (500+) healthcare org, 2 other large leadership roles that are long-term over the summer
No family in medicine, parents don’t have degrees. I know my MCAT drags me down, but I think I have a lot of heart and all of my things I’ve done have been long term 2+ years. I’ve been a TA for chemistry labs/chemistry/biology and I’ve also tutored exchange students and loved every minute of it. I love to cook, gym, game, and I’m really just a normal guy. I have a painting business on the side and also do fashion/have a site.
Any help at all would be much appreciated! Thank y’all!
