What makes a pair of earrings become the ones you reach for all the time?

I was looking through my earrings and realised there are always a few pairs that somehow get worn over and over, while others I really like barely leave the jewellery box.

And it isn’t always the prettiest pair that gets worn the most.

For you, what usually makes a pair become your default?

Comfort? Weight? Easy to match with everything? A secure closure? Not getting caught in your hair? Or is it mostly just a design that feels very “you”?

Also curious about the opposite — what makes you stop reaching for a pair even though you still like how they look?

What makes you trust a small jewellery brand enough to actually buy from them?

I run a small jewellery brand and the conversations here have made me realise that making something people like is only half the battle.

Someone mentioned that even if they like a pair of earrings, they wouldn’t necessarily buy from an unfamiliar brand — especially when it’s something sitting in their ears all day and they care about the materials.

And I thought that was a really fair point.

If you come across a small jewellery brand you’ve never heard of before and really like one of their pieces, what do you check before you’re comfortable actually ordering?

Materials? Reviews? Returns? Photos from real customers? How long the brand has existed? Who’s behind it?

Or is there something else that immediately makes you think either “I’d buy from them” or “nope, not risking it”?

When you buy from a small jewellery brand, do you want better basics — or something you can’t find anywhere else?

I run a small jewellery brand, and someone here gave me a piece of feedback that genuinely made me rethink something.

I’ve always liked the idea of jewellery being easy to wear every day — small hoops, studs, simple pieces you don’t really have to think about.

But they made the point that they can already get tiny basic earrings very cheaply from high-street shops. If they’re going to spend more with a small independent brand, they want something more distinctive — colour, bigger shapes, natural themes, or just a design where you can tell someone actually put thought into it.

And I realised I might have been thinking about “wearability” so much that I underestimated how important personality is.

So I’m curious: when you shop from a smaller jewellery brand, which are you actually looking for?

Better-quality versions of everyday basics?

Or the more unusual pieces that you wouldn’t expect to find in a typical high-street shop?

And what makes a piece feel worth spending more on to you?

Which pair would you actually wear the most — 1, 2, 3 or 4?

I run a small jewellery brand, so I spend an unreasonable amount of time looking at earrings 😅

After staring at the same pieces for long enough, I feel like you completely lose perspective on what people would actually reach for in real life.

So I'm curious — if these four were sitting in your jewellery box and you could only keep one, which would you choose?

And would it be an everyday pair for you, or something you'd save for going out?

Do pearls still read as “formal”, or have they become an everyday jewellery piece?

I’ve been looking at how pearl jewellery has shifted away from the very traditional styling we used to see.

I personally love smaller pearls paired with simple silver because it makes them much easier to wear with jeans, knitwear or a basic white shirt.

Curious how everyone here wears pearls — everyday or mostly for occasions?
