Refused a job for being 19?

Just came home from being about to sign an entry level janitorial position at a pub down the road, early hours pre opening time and offering training.

It was going well, we were amicable talking about what I'd do when I'd start, and then the interviewer asked for my age, had a look when I answered, left to make a call and terminated the contract process. Wasn't hostile in any way, just... Confusing.

I cant exactly fathom why, could someone give me some insight so I can keep this in mind going forward in job applications?
