ORD-HKG-PEK. Flight delayed out of Chicago causing me to not make connection and it appears connecting flight was cancelled anyway. Still on the same delayed flight out but now with an 8 hour overnight layover in Hong Kong rather than 55 minutes. Going to miss an entire trip with my family unfortunately. I have two questions:

Would Cathay rebook me back onto the original itinerary for a different day, say one week later if I called?

If not, is there any chance j could argue for lounge access or something to make the layover more bearable?
